Dama McGillavry by arikla Dama McGillavry by arikla
The original song is "Donald McGillavry" and when I first heard it I thought the line was "Come like a White buck, Donald McGillavry". Well, I have since looked the lyrics up and found that is "weighbauk", a set of scales...

But! I was saved! the Fallow Deer is Dama dama.

So, we have Dama McGillavry... the white buck.

the knotwork is in variegated red foil and looks better when not scanned :P

Holy crap! A DD! Thanks!

Daily Deviation

Given 2010-02-05
Dama McGillavry by *arikla This piece is stunning, I love how the artist has portrayed a pure, clean white fur by shading the shadows with blue. The gentleness in his face is touching and oddly comforting. ( Suggested by Avalik and Featured by Pixel-Spotlight )
:iconduraluminwolf:
Like the daily deviation notice pointed out, I like the gentleness of this piece. What's especially impressive is the way you've actually made this deer's clothes look as though they are actually fabric.

My only gripe, though, is the placement of the knotwork. While I do feel it's an appropriate artistic flourish, it would have looked better behind the main figure, which, at the moment, looks "boxed-in", therefore, creating a sense of claustrophobia.

Also, another thing to consider is the shape of the deer's head. Some more subtle shading would have helped to emphasize the form of his face.

In spite of all that, this is a wonderfully well-crafted piece.
What do you think?

And back again to your preceding fame! I have seen this picture before, too. Although Daily Deviated pictures like this are hard to miss, but as far as I am concerned it tells a bit about quality of your works. It´s too bad I can´t mimic or even figure out the textures you are capable of making - Stealing is bad, but in some cases temptation is just too strong. :)

Aw, thanks! Honestly, though, I LOVE how you do your pieces! You achieve a depth and texture all your own with the technique you use, so keep that up!

Quite an interesting portrait, and the fabric looks real.

Very well done. Also, the celtic knots used as a frame seem to add a good final touch to the piece.

It's an amazing band. Their from California i think...

Roscoe is another good tune as well. Deffinetly worth a check out.

The thing that reminded me about it is just the art style, kinda has that weird odd obscure feeling to it? Kinda what Midlake brings out, with Van Occupanther album (and cover [link]). You know? Wood, trees, old folklore? Animals, forest, 1800's? It kinda speaks for it self.. I cant explain it.
Anyways, yeah. I love it, looks good.

They also just came out with a new album last week if i might add. But Van Occupanther is a deffinite own in any cd collection.

It is a great song. There is a small, local (to me) band called "Rising Gael" that does quite a nice, powerful version of it.
